at the International Children's Rights Conference
north of Vancouver.
Child Rights in Practice: Measuring Our Impact
2009 celebrates the 20 year anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC),
the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world. We at IICRD would like to celebrate the
historic endorsement of children’s rights by examining the impact that it has had on the day to day
lives of children in Canada and around the world.
IICRD will be hosting a week long interactive training on Children’s Rights in Practice: Measuring
Our Impact. Topics to be addressed by presenters and keynote speakers, in plenary and
workshop formats, include measuring the impact of the CRC on children and their world with
special focus on:
♦ Assessing the impact of services for children across various government and NGO
sectors
♦ Monitoring and evaluation of child centred legislation and services
♦ Rights based approaches to monitoring and evaluation
♦ Child participation in measuring impact
♦ Community based, contextual approaches to monitoring and evaluation
Special emphasis will be placed on learning and sharing how individuals and agencies are
measuring the impact of rights based programming, engaging children and community,
contextualizing programs and affecting larger systemic change. A variety of tools and
approaches will be highlighted in the process, and time will be divided into plenary, small group
and individual reflection time to create a rich learning environment.
The training will take place in an inspirational, natural surrounding conducive to personal and
professional growth and the deepening of social relationships and child-centred networks. The
invitation is intended for professionals and students, locally, nationally, and internationally, who
work with children and have an interest in measuring the impact of children’s rights in their work.
Information and registration details will be available in September 2008. Please visit our website
at www.iicrd.org or contact us at iicrd@uvic.ca for further information.
